Short on time? Here's the essentials:

In Bon Temps, Louisiana, vampires live among humans, and Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress, navigates this new reality. Her vampire boyfriend, Bill Compton, struggles with his maker, Lorena, and his new fledgling, Jessica. Meanwhile, Sookie's friend Tara falls under the sway of the mysterious Maryann, and Jason Stackhouse joins a fanatical anti-vampire group.

The season's central conflict revolves around Sookie's quest to find Godric, an ancient vampire, and her entanglement with Maryann's increasingly destructive influence over the town. Key turning points include Sookie being poisoned by a creature and needing Eric Northman's help, Godric's shocking suicide by sunlight, and Maryann's escalating control over Tara and Eggs, culminating in a ritual sacrifice.

The season ends with Maryann killed by Sam, but not before she orchestrates a violent climax. Bill proposes to Sookie, only to be kidnapped, leaving their future uncertain.

Season 2 of True Blood covers episodes 1-12. Here's everything that happened:

Season 2, Episode 1: Nothing But the Blood - The episode opens with the aftermath of a shocking murder outside Merlotte's. Sookie learns Bill sired Jessica and killed her uncle, testing their relationship. Tara is taken in by Maryann, while Jason joins the Fellowship of the Sun. Eric holds Lafayette captive, and Royce, another prisoner, is dismembered by Eric when he tries to escape.

Season 2, Episode 2: Keep This Party Going - Sookie mediates Bill and Jessica's rocky start as maker and fledgling. Eric pressures Bill to enlist Sookie's help in locating a missing vampire. Jason embraces the Fellowship of the Sun. Tara learns about Eggs' past. Maryann's influence over Bon Temps intensifies, and Sam transforms into a dog. Jessica visits her family, but her reunion turns violent until Bill intervenes. The episode concludes with Lafayette being attacked by Eric, Pam and Chow.

Season 2, Episode 3: Scratches - After arguing with Bill, Sookie is attacked by a mysterious, clawed creature. Bill's blood fails to heal her, so he takes her to Eric. There, a doctor discovers she's been poisoned. Sookie learns Lafayette is being held captive and bargains with Eric for his release in exchange for helping find Godric in Dallas. The episode concludes with Daphne revealing similar scratches on her back.

Season 2, Episode 4: Shake and Fingerpop - Bill, Sookie, and Jessica travel to Dallas to search for Godric, where a kidnapping attempt reveals the Fellowship of the Sun's involvement. Jason is welcomed into the Newlins' home and becomes a Soldier of the Sun. Maryann throws Tara a birthday party at Sookie's, escalating into a wild revelry where Maryann's true nature begins to surface. The episode concludes with Sookie chasing after Barry, a mind-reading bellboy.

Season 2, Episode 5: Never Let Me Go - In Dallas, Sookie meets Barry, a telepathic bellhop. Eric reveals to Bill that Godric is his maker via flashback to Viking times. Back in Bon Temps, Sam discovers Daphne is also a shapeshifter. Maryann casts a spell, manipulating Tara into letting her stay at Sookie's. Sookie offers to infiltrate the Fellowship of the Sun. The episode concludes with Lorena appearing at Bill and Sookie's hotel room.

Season 2, Episode 6: Hard-Hearted Hannah - Sookie and Hugo infiltrate the Fellowship of the Sun but are quickly caught. Bill's maker, Lorena, arrives to distract him, leading to flashbacks of their violent past. Jason succumbs to Sarah Newlin's advances. Daphne betrays Sam, leading him into Maryann's clutches. The episode concludes with Maryann ready to attack Sam with a knife.

Season 2, Episode 7: Release Me - Sookie and Hugo are held captive, where Sookie learns Hugo is the traitor. Bill flashes back to his release from Lorena in 1935 as she prevents him from saving Sookie. Sam learns Maryann is a Maenad. Maryann controls Eggs to kill Daphne. Sarah shoots Jason as he tries to leave the Fellowship.

Season 2, Episode 8: Timebomb - Godric kills Gabe to save Sookie, ordering Eric to escort her from the church. Sam is framed for Daphne's murder. Tara and Eggs unknowingly eat Daphne's heart in a "hunter's souffle" prepared by Maryann. At Godric's lair, Luke reveals himself as a suicide bomber covered in silver and explosives, detonating the bomb as the episode concludes.

Season 2, Episode 9: I Will Rise Up - Following the bombing, Godric decides to meet the sun, devastating Eric. Sam escapes Maryann by turning into a fly. Lafayette and Lettie Mae rescue Tara from Maryann's influence. Sookie witnesses Godric's suicide as the sun rises, leaving a permanent impact. The episode concludes with Sookie waking from a dream about Eric.

Season 2, Episode 10: New World in My View - Sookie, Bill, and Jason return to a Bon Temps consumed by Maryann's influence. They find Tara possessed, but Sookie and Bill manage to break Maryann's spell. Meanwhile, Sam and Andy are trapped at Merlotte's, and Jason attempts a rescue by impersonating a god. Bill seeks help from the Vampire Queen, only to find a bloody scene suggesting danger.

Season 2, Episode 11: Frenzy - Bill seeks advice from Queen Sophie-Anne on defeating Maryann. Jason and Andy prepare to confront Maryann, while Sam asks Eric for help. Tara escapes Sookie's protection and rejoins Eggs under Maryann's influence. The episode concludes with Tara and Eggs building a nest for a large egg, furthering Maryann's ritual. Lafayette kills Carl while trying to protect Sookie from Maryann.

Season 2, Episode 12: Beyond Here Lies Nothin' - Maryann prepares to sacrifice Sam to her god, with Sookie as maid of honor. Bill offers Sam in exchange for Sookie's safety, but it's a ruse. "Eggs" stabs Sam, but Sookie destroys the ritual, angering Maryann. Sam, as a bull, then kills Maryann. Later, Jason shoots Eggs. Bill proposes to Sookie, but is then kidnapped.
