Short on time? Here's the essentials:

Ray Donovan, a fixer who cleans up powerful people's messes, finds himself in New York after a suicide attempt. He gets involved with mayoral candidate Anita Novak, who is in deep trouble after a scandalous encounter. Ray's father, Mickey, and brother, Bunchy, are also causing chaos, attempting to kidnap Ray's granddaughter and extorting money.

The season's central conflict revolves around Ray navigating the dangerous New York political landscape while trying to manage his dysfunctional family. He becomes entangled in Anita's campaign, covering up her crimes and manipulating events to her advantage. Meanwhile, Mickey and Bunchy's schemes escalate, leading to violence and betrayal within the Donovan family. A major turning point occurs when Anita murders her blackmailer, and Ray frames someone else for the crime, resulting in Fetu's death. Later, Justine, a key figure in Anita's life, is made to appear to commit suicide.

The season concludes with Ray dealing with the fallout of his actions. After a brutal confrontation, Mac, a cop who helped Ray, commits suicide. Ray also settles scores, with Lena killing Vinny and Sam Winslow found dead by hanging. The Donovan family, battered but intact, reunites, and Ray finally seeks therapy.
