Ray Donovan is a professional "fixer" in Los Angeles, hired by the wealthy and powerful to make their problems disappear. His main goal is to protect his family, especially his children, while navigating a dangerous world of crime and corruption. His father, Mickey Donovan, is a volatile ex-con who constantly creates chaos.

This season, Ray is forced by the FBI to bring Mickey back from Mexico. This puts him in direct conflict with FBI agent Cochran, who is pursuing Mickey and his associates. Ray also deals with the fallout of Sully's death, a reporter named Kate McPherson investigating the FBI's actions, and the increasing instability of his own family life, including his wife Abby's affair. Season 2, Episode 3: Gem and Loan - Ray and Abby face hurdles getting Bridget into Bel Air Academy, requiring Ray to deal with Stu Feldman. Mickey, working at a Mexican restaurant, evades his parole officer to meet Claudette. Kate McPherson investigates Sully, questioning Terry and later confronting Ray.
