Short on time? Here's the essentials:

In "Orange Is the New Black" Season 2, Piper Chapman, a privileged woman serving time in Litchfield Penitentiary for drug money laundering, navigates the complex and often dangerous world of a women's prison. Her ex-girlfriend, Alex Vause, a cunning drug dealer, is also a key figure, and this season introduces Vee Parker, a manipulative former drug dealer who seeks to regain power and control within the prison walls.

The season begins with Piper's unexpected transfer to a Chicago prison to testify in a drug trial alongside Alex. Alex manipulates Piper into lying, then gets herself released, leaving Piper facing potential perjury charges. Back at Litchfield, Vee Parker arrives and quickly establishes her dominance, manipulating inmates like Taystee, a loyal former protégé, and Suzanne, a vulnerable inmate, to build her crew and control the prison's black market. This puts her in direct conflict with Red, a respected older inmate who previously ran the kitchen and smuggling operations. Vee's ruthless tactics escalate, leading to a brutal turf war and Suzanne violently beating Poussey at Vee's command. Meanwhile, Piper deals with personal losses, including her grandmother's death and a final breakup with her fiancé, Larry, while also trying to expose corruption within the prison.

As a major storm hits Litchfield, Vee escapes during the chaos. However, Miss Rosa, a terminally ill inmate, seizes an opportunity during her final moments, stealing a prison van and running Vee over, killing her. In the aftermath, Piper orchestrates a plan that results in Alex's return to prison.
