Short on time? Here's the essentials:

Two years after leaving the CIA, Carrie Mathison works for a foundation in Berlin, but her boss Otto Düring's humanitarian work pulls her back into dangerous intelligence. She's targeted by hackers stealing sensitive CIA data and is kidnapped by men connected to Abu Nazir. Meanwhile, former CIA operative Peter Quinn, now a freelance assassin, is assigned to kill Carrie.

The core conflict revolves around a massive leak of CIA documents and a Russian plot to exploit it. Carrie, believing she's the target, goes off her medication, leading to erratic behavior. Allison Carr is revealed as a Russian mole orchestrating the assassination attempts and framing Saul. General Youssef and his family are killed in a plane explosion, and Russian agents kill Carrie's contact in Amsterdam. After a harrowing ordeal where he's used for sarin gas testing, Quinn is rescued, but barely alive.

The season culminates with Carrie and Saul working to prevent a sarin gas attack on Berlin. Allison Carr is killed by Saul's team, and Quinn dies after Carrie makes the difficult choice to end his suffering. Carrie declines an offer to return to the CIA, opting for a new path with Otto.

Season 5 of Homeland covers episodes 1-12. Here's everything that happened:

Season 5, Episode 1: Separation Anxiety - Two years after leaving the CIA, Carrie Mathison works for a philanthropic foundation in Berlin. Her boss, Otto Düring, plans a trip to a Syrian refugee camp, pulling Carrie back into dangerous intelligence work. Meanwhile, hackers breach the CIA, stealing sensitive data, and Peter Quinn returns from Syria, now working as a freelance assassin for Saul. The episode ends with Carrie being kidnapped by men connected to Abu Nazir, who blames her for his son's death.

Season 5, Episode 2: The Tradition of Hospitality - Carrie Mathison's security work at a refugee camp is jeopardized by an attempted suicide bombing. It's revealed that Carrie herself was the true target, not Otto Düring. Meanwhile, Peter Quinn receives his next assignment: Carrie Mathison. The episode concludes with Quinn receiving this new directive, setting up a dangerous future for Carrie.

Season 5, Episode 3: Super Powers - Carrie, believing she's the target of an assassination attempt, stops taking her bipolar medication to enhance her investigative abilities. This leads to a manic spiral, alienating her boyfriend Jonas and causing her to hallucinate conversations with Aayan. Meanwhile, Peter Quinn kidnaps Jonas' son to track Jonas, and Saul discovers a sexual relationship between Allison and himself. The episode concludes with Quinn incapacitating Carrie after she shoots him, and Numan giving Laura the hacked documents.

Season 5, Episode 4: Why is This Night Different? - Carrie Mathison is rescued by Peter Quinn, who reveals he was ordered to kill her, but they fake her death to help her disappear. General Youssef and his family are killed when their plane explodes, and Allison Carr is revealed to be the one who ordered Carrie's assassination. Quinn is shot while disposing of proof of Carrie's death but survives.

Season 5, Episode 5: Better Call Saul - Carrie learns Russia is behind the assassination attempt on Quinn and that the leaked CIA documents were sold to them. Allison Carr is fully revealed as a Russian mole, actively working to frame Saul. Quinn, severely wounded, attempts suicide but is found by a passerby. The episode ends with Carrie and Saul reuniting, hinting at a potential alliance.

Season 5, Episode 6: Parabiosis - Carrie suspects Russian involvement in the attack on her and seeks the leaked documents from Saul, who is being surveilled by Dar Adal. Quinn, recovering with jihadists, kills Hajik after an altercation. Carrie, feeling she brings ruin, asks Otto for a plane to disappear. Saul is apprehended by the CIA after obtaining the documents.

Season 5, Episode 7: Oriole - Carrie, operating under the codename "Oriole," investigates a lead suggesting a presumed-dead Iraqi lawyer is alive. This takes her to Amsterdam, where her contact, Esam, is killed by Russian agents while helping her. Meanwhile, Saul, interrogated by Allison, reveals he gave Carrie the leaked documents. The episode concludes with Carrie, now aware of the danger, contacting Allison for a meeting.

Season 5, Episode 8: All About Allison - Carrie seeks Allison's help to uncover the truth behind recent events, leading to flashbacks of their time in Baghdad. Allison is revealed to be a double agent, blackmailed by Russian intelligence after stealing money with her asset, Ahmed Nazari. Nazari is ultimately killed, and Allison narrowly escapes a Russian sniper, fully committing her to working for the SVR.

Season 5, Episode 9: The Litvinov Ruse - Carrie and Saul, working with the BND, devise a plan to expose Allison as a double agent. Saul successfully plants surveillance devices on Allison, leading to her meeting with her Russian handler, Ivan Krupin. Meanwhile, Peter Quinn, used as a test subject for sarin gas, is covertly aided by Qasim. Allison and Krupin are arrested, but Allison defiantly claims Krupin was her asset, leaving Dar Adal and the others uncertain.

Season 5, Episode 10: New Normal - Carrie and Astrid race against time to find Quinn, discovering he's alive but barely. Meanwhile, Bibi releases a video threatening a chemical attack on Berlin, escalating the crisis. Allison's duplicity is confirmed, and Quinn is rescued just as the terrorists prepare to strike, leaving Berlin in peril.

Season 5, Episode 11: Our Man in Damascus - Carrie and Saul race against time to prevent a sarin gas attack on Berlin's main train station. Allison Carr, revealed to be a triple agent, murders her Russian handler and Dr. Aziz, then stages the scene to mislead authorities. The episode concludes with Carrie pursuing the bomber into the subway tunnels as Allison escapes custody.

Season 5, Episode 12: A False Glimmer - Carrie and Qasim prevent Bibi from releasing sarin gas in the Berlin subway, though Qasim succumbs to his wounds. Allison Carr is killed by Saul's team, and Quinn dies after Carrie makes the difficult decision to end his suffering. Laura publicly discredits Marwan to save Numan, and Carrie declines Saul's offer to return to the CIA, choosing instead to explore a potential future with Otto.
