Short on time? Here's the essentials:

In 1979, butcher Ed Blomquist and his wife Peggy find themselves entangled in a deadly crime after Peggy hits Rye Gerhardt, a member of the local Gerhardt crime family, with her car. Ed, wanting to protect Peggy, kills Rye and they decide to hide the body, setting off a chain of events that pits them against two powerful crime syndicates. State Trooper Lou Solverson investigates the initial murders, slowly piecing together the truth.

The Gerhardt family, led by matriarch Floyd Gerhardt, searches for Rye while fending off a hostile takeover bid from the Kansas City syndicate, led by Mike Milligan. Ed attempts to dispose of Rye's body, feeding the corpse to his meat grinder. As the war between the crime families escalates, Lou Solverson closes in on Ed and Peggy. The Blomquists are eventually caught, leading to a tense standoff where Peggy captures Dodd Gerhardt, a volatile member of the Gerhardt family. Hanzee Dent, a loyal Gerhardt enforcer, betrays the family, ultimately killing Dodd Gerhardt.

The conflict culminates in a brutal massacre at a motel, where many lives are lost, including Bear Gerhardt, another Gerhardt son. Ed and Peggy attempt to escape, but Ed is fatally wounded and dies in a supermarket freezer. Hanzee Dent escapes and assumes a new identity, while Lou Solverson returns to his family, reflecting on the violent events that transpired.

Season 2 of Fargo covers episodes 1-10. Here's everything that happened:

Season 2, Episode 1: Waiting for Dutch - Rye Gerhardt's botched blackmail attempt at a diner leads to the murders of a judge, cook, and waitress. Season 2, Episode 2: Before the Law - The Gerhardt family grapples with patriarch Otto's stroke as a Kansas City syndicate makes a buyout offer. Lou Solverson investigates the Waffle Hut massacre, finding Rye's gun, while the Gerhardts intensify their search for Rye.

Season 2, Episode 3: The Myth of Sisyphus - The search for Rye Gerhardt intensifies as Lou Solverson and Ben Schmidt investigate the murdered judge. Meanwhile, Dodd Gerhardt and Hanzee brutally bury Skip alive in hot asphalt after he reveals Mike Milligan was looking for Rye. Peggy convinces Ed to stage another car accident to cover up the damage from hitting Rye, leading to a second, more damaging crash. The episode concludes with the Gerhardt family discussing their options regarding the Kansas City mafia, and Lou realizing the depth of the danger he's in.

Season 2, Episode 4: Fear and Trembling - The Gerhardts face escalating war with the Kansas City syndicate after Floyd's counter-offer is rejected. Lou Solverson suspects the Blumquists' involvement in Rye's disappearance. Otto Gerhardt is ambushed and left vulnerable, while Peggy spends money meant for the butcher shop on a seminar, creating further marital strife. The episode ends with Floyd declaring war on Kansas City.

Season 2, Episode 5: The Gift of the Magi - The Gerhardt family retaliates against Kansas City, leading to a brutal shootout where Joe Bulo is killed by Hanzee. Season 2, Episode 7: Did You Do This? No, You Did It! - Following a brutal montage of mob hits, the Gerhardt family suffers the loss of Otto and Rye. Lou and Hank interrogate Floyd, who reveals information about the Kansas City syndicate's operations. Simone Gerhardt is murdered by her uncle, Bear, after being caught betraying the family. The episode concludes with Ed Blumquist revealing he has Dodd Gerhardt in his car trunk, setting the stage for a violent confrontation in Sioux Falls.

Hanzee then flees after Peggy stabs him, leaving Ed and Peggy to be found by Lou and Hank.

Season 2, Episode 9: The Castle - The episode culminates in a brutal massacre at the Motor Motel. After Hanzee's betrayal and the Gerhardt family's violent assault, Lou Solverson manages to kill Bear Gerhardt amidst a chaotic UFO sighting.
