Firehouse 51 is a dedicated team of firefighters and paramedics facing dangerous rescues and personal challenges. Key members include Lieutenant Kelly Severide, a skilled arson investigator driven to solve cases, and Captain Matt Casey, a respected leader who prioritizes the well-being of his team and community. Chief Wallace Boden, their steadfast leader, oversees the station's operations.

The season's central conflict revolves around significant changes and threats. Captain Casey makes the life-altering decision to move to Oregon to care for his late friend's sons, leaving a void at Firehouse 51. Meanwhile, a dangerous arsonist targets churches, leading to a priest's death and the arsonist's own demise in a shocking car bomb explosion. Lieutenant Pelham joins the team temporarily, facing friction and allegations that are eventually cleared, allowing him to be reinstated. The season culminates with the highly anticipated wedding of Kelly Severide and Stella Kidd, a joyous occasion that is tragically interrupted by an intruder on their honeymoon.
