Short on time? Here's the essentials:
The world is overrun by vampires, known as strigoi, led by the ancient Master. Dr. Ephraim Goodweather, a scientist desperate to find a cure, and Abraham Setrakian, an old vampire hunter, lead the fight. Their goal is to destroy the Master and save humanity.
The season's central conflict revolves around the strigoi's plan to breed humans for food and spread their infection globally. Key turning points include the resistance's efforts to poison the strigoi blood supply and their desperate search for a nuclear weapon to use against the Master. Major deaths include Alex and Raul, followed by the shocking infection and subsequent death of Setrakian.
The season culminates in a final battle where Quinlan is killed by the Master. The Master then infects Eph, but Eph's son, Zach, detonates the nuclear weapon, killing them both and ultimately leading to the strigoi's defeat and the return of the sun.
