Short on time? Here's the essentials:

After averting a nuclear catastrophe, individuals with extraordinary abilities find themselves scattered and facing new threats. Peter Petrelli, an empath who can absorb powers, awakens with amnesia in Ireland, while Hiro Nakamura, a time-traveler, finds himself in feudal Japan, where he discovers his hero, Takezo Kensei, is not who he seems. Claire Bennet, an indestructible cheerleader, attempts to live a normal life but struggles with her unique abilities.

The central conflict revolves around a deadly, engineered contagion known as the Shanti virus, which could wipe out humanity. A mysterious organization, The Company, and its immortal operative, Adam Monroe (the true identity of Takezo Kensei), are at the heart of this conspiracy. Adam seeks to release the virus, believing it will cleanse the world. Peter, regaining his memories and powers, races against time to stop Adam. Meanwhile, Hiro's father is murdered by Adam, prompting Hiro to travel through time to uncover the truth and prevent further tragedy. Niki Sanders, a woman with superhuman strength, tragically dies while saving others from an explosion.

The season culminates in a desperate struggle to prevent the virus's release. Peter confronts Adam Monroe and successfully stops him from unleashing the pathogen. However, the fight is far from over as Sylar, a power-stealing serial killer, regains his abilities, and Nathan Petrelli, a flying politician, is shot just as he prepares to reveal the existence of evolved humans to the world.
