Short on time? Here's the essentials:

The world faces an existential threat from the Army of the Dead, led by the Night King. Jon Snow, a noble warrior, learns he is actually Aegon Targaryen, the rightful heir to the Iron Throne, a secret Daenerys Targaryen, a claimant to the throne with dragons, struggles to accept.

The living unite to fight the dead, but the victory comes at a terrible cost. After the Night King is defeated, Daenerys, driven by grief and paranoia, unleashes her dragon on King's Landing, burning the city. Jon Snow then kills Daenerys to prevent further destruction. Bran Stark is ultimately chosen as King, and Jon is exiled.
