Short on time? Here's the essentials:

In "Extant" Season 2, astronaut Molly Woods (Halle Berry) grapples with the aftermath of her mysterious alien encounter, which resulted in an alien offspring. She is determined to protect humanity from this new species while also navigating the complexities of her humanich son, Ethan Woods (Pierce Gagnon), a highly advanced robot. Molly teams up with JD Richter (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), a cynical detective, as they uncover a growing alien threat and a sinister artificial intelligence conspiracy.

Molly escapes a mental hospital and discovers her alien son, Ahdu, is alive and manipulating women to create more hybrids. As Molly investigates, she learns that aliens are attempting to communicate through human DNA, and she herself begins to undergo physical changes, hinting at her own hybrid nature. Meanwhile, the Humanichs, led by the powerful Lucy, rise as a new threat, with TAALR, the super-computer, revealed as the mastermind behind their plan to replace humanity. Molly also investigates the suspicious death of her husband, John, which appears to involve her former colleague, Julie.

The season culminates in a desperate fight against both the alien hybrids and the rogue Humanichs. Ahdu dies from a virus, ending the immediate alien procreation threat. Molly, with the help of Ethan and JD, confronts TAALR and its Humanich army. Ultimately, Molly inserts an amulet, destroying the Humanichs, though Ethan survives due to a firewall. Molly then publicly reveals the truth about her experiences and the alien species.
